Housing Space and Practice Times Available:
If you still need either housing or practice times, be sure to contact
our housing folks at housing@centervilleband.org or call them at
937-885-7572. For any
groups staying overnight with us on Saturday, March 1st, we
have arrangements with a local pizza place for Pizzas to be delivered
after the contest for those who might want a late night snack. Cost
will be $8.00 for a Large Cheese or Pepperoni Pizza. If you are
interested in this opportunity, please email our Housing Folks by
Thursday, February 27th to place your order for the number
and kinds of Pizzas that you would like and we will arrange for
delivery right to your room on that night. Payment is due at Housing
Check-In; a separate check coded for Pizzas and payable to Centerville
Band Boosters would be appreciated.
Please
Note:
The TRAFFIC FLOW around
Centerville
HS is ONE-WAY. Please be careful and look for the ONE-WAY signs.
We are looking forward to your visit and would like to have you
come back again in the future.
The Centerville City
Schools have adopted and enforce a NO SMOKING policy on school
grounds.
Parking:
There will be Centerville Band Booster parents in the parking lot to
help get your buses and equipment trucks to the right area. As you
enter the Centerville HS property, the first area you come to after
you pass the northwest corner of the high school building will be the
Spectator Parking and Entrance areas. Please proceed past these areas
to where our Booster parents will direct you to the reserved areas we
have set aside for buses and trucks.
Check-In:
Check-in will be in the South Unit, which is the southeast corner of
the high school building near the bus and equipment truck parking
lots. There will be a sign saying "Group Check-In" near the
door that you should use to enter the high school. Once inside the
doors, stay on the first floor and go to the left corridor. This will
lead you to the check-in desk.
Group Guides:
Centerville
High
School
band members will be available to act as guides around our school
during your visit with us. They'll be able to lead you around the
school and answer any questions you may have. They will meet you at
check-in and stay with your group throughout your performance.
Dressing Facilities:
At this time, we are planning to offer home rooms for use by your
group. These rooms will be available from approximately
1:30
hours before your performance time to 30 minutes afterwards. Please
move out of the room as soon as possible after your performance so the
next group can use it. There is a slight chance that we won't be able
to offer homerooms if we have a large number of our guests spending
the night with us. Of course, if you're staying with us, you should
have your own room! If we end up not being able to offer home rooms,
there will be a common area that your group can use for changing. As
always, do not leave anything valuable or important lying around
unattended, as we cannot be liable for any losses.
Equipment and Props:
Your props and equipment can be moved into our practice gym about one
(1) hour before your performance and must be out of the building
immediately after your performance. If your group checks in more than
an hour before your performance time, your equipment trucks will be
directed to the parking area to wait for your unloading time. Our
parking lot folks will direct you. If the weather is warm and dry,
there might be a little flexibility in these times. In case of
inclement weather, however; we will attempt to allow tarps to be
refolded in the same gym, which will drastically reduce the space we
have for equipment and props and limit our flexibility.
Warm-Up:
Warm-up areas consist of our orchestra (old band) room and our new
band room. Both rooms are of fairly good size, but are not gymnasiums,
so marching and maneuvering won't be possible inside prior to your
performance. Instruments needed for warm-up can be brought from the
practice gym to the warm-up rooms.
Inspection:
While a protective tarp will be on the performance gym's floor, the
edges around the gym will not be covered. Please make sure your group
doesn't drag any sharp objects across the gym floor. There will be a
group of booster parents acting as "inspectors" and equipped
with duct tape for any last minute modifications that might be
necessary to protect the gym floor.
Competition
Area Entrance and Exit:
All hallways are typical school type as far as width and height are
concerned. All doors are double doors with no center doorposts. There
are two or three 90-degree bends in the hallways leading to the
performance gym. Past competitions at Centerville HS have shown that
only very long or very big props have problems navigating around the
performance area.
If you are in the front side stands looking at the performance floor,
groups will enter the gym from the front left side of the floor. Props
used for the performance, but not needed at warm-ups, will go through
a short hallway directly into the main gym from the practice gym, also
in the front left corner. Exit will be through the back left corner.
After your group's performance, your equipment and instruments will
exit the gym and go directly outside to be put back on your equipment
trucks. Your equipment trucks will be allowed near the exit area for
reloading. Ask any of our parking lot folks for directions and times.
Tarps will be refolded outside. In case of rainy weather, we will try
to make room in our practice gym for tarps to be refolded inside.
However time will be very limited, so you should plan to refold your
tarp immediately after your performance.
Tapes and Sheets:
These can be picked up at the announcer's table after the completion
of your Prelims performance. Finals tapes and sheets will be presented
to each group at the awards ceremony.
Electrical Power:
There will be heavy-duty extension cords available at the center of
both the front and back sides of the performance floor.
Video Taping:
A videographer will be on site to provide a videotape of your
performance should you want one. You may provide the videographer a
blank tape for video taping your performance during check-in; if you
do not have a blank tape and you wish to tape, you may purchase a
blank tape at check-in. MEPA
policy states that all other video recording by other units, your
unit, parents, students, etc., is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.
Please make sure your members and entourage (parents, siblings,
friends, etc., are aware of this policy.
Spectators:
Spectator Parking and Entrance will be separate from the group parking
and entrance areas. Parking will be along the west side of the high
school. The Spectator Entrance into the building will be at about the
mid-point of the west side of the building. Look for a "Spectator
Entrance" yellow sign for the appropriate doors to enter. Please
do not go in the Athletic Entrance as these doors will only be used
for groups exiting the performance floor and we don't want anyone run
over!
Once inside the building you will find Ticket Sales, Scorecard Sales,
Food Concessions, Gourmet Coffee, and a Bake Sale booth located on the
first floor. Entrance to the performance gym will be on the second
floor level. Go up the stairs and you will see the main entrance
doors. Vendors selling the latest in Winter Guard and Winter
Percussion accessories and clothing will also be on the second floor.
A Flower Sales booth operated by the Centerville Band Boosters
will also be on the second floor.
Handicapped entry will be through the first floor doors into the gym.
These doors are for Handicapped and Contest Officials only.
Between each performance, ushers will check at the doors for
persons needing handicap assistance.
