The middle school band
concerts are on May 13th, which some felt would be a
conflict with Band Awards. After looking at many other
dates and trying to reschedule, it was determined that
moving the date would only further complicate the
situation. Therefore, we will still be holding our
annual Band Awards Night on Thursday, May 13th in the
CHS Performing Arts Center.
We will be starting
earlier than normal at 6:30 pm for those parents who
would like to attend the middle school concert. Please
see the attached invitation. We hope you will join us
for this celebration!

possible. Completed
questionnaires need to be returned to Mr. and Mrs. Ferncez
no later than Friday, April 2, 2010. And

We want everyone to be included.
A message from your Centerville
Band Booster Presidents, Mike and Laura Ward:
We would like to send out a
sincere thank you to all who volunteered some or all
of their time at the March 14th MEPA contest. It
was a successful event and we appreciate all the
hard work put into it. A special thanks also goes
to Danny and Sharon Allen for heading up their first
of many winter contests this season.
As you all know, we have many
events to host in the upcoming weeks and we still
need more people to sign-up. If this was your first
time to help out with an event, we are going to go
out on a limb and guess you had a good time and will
have no problem helping out again. Let's make this
fun! We would like to challenge all of you who
volunteered to bring someone with you to help at the
MEPA Championship coming up on March 27th & 28th and
the WGI Guard Show on April 8th! Danny and Sharon
Allen are looking forward to hearing from all of
you. So contact them and sign up today!
A Big THANK YOU to all
who attended the General Board Meeting Monday Night! For
those of you who were unable to attend you missed a ton of
information about the upcoming year to include the first
real information on the Big Trip this year and the tentative
BOA competitions the marching band will compete in this fall
and all in less than an hour. So to help you fill in the gap
please check out the website frequently, check for your "CBB
Wednesday What's Happening" email, and watch for future
meeting announcements which we hope to see at.
Volunteers needed for all events. Why
is this important? The primary reason is the amount of
money we raise, as you can see from the Contest Income
alone CBB makes an estimated $104,800 a year and this
money goes to keeping our annual Marching Band, Winter
Guard, and Drumline fees around $700 a year, by
comparison other local bands pay close to $2000 a year
because they don’t have these great money making
opportunities. To summarize we need volunteers to help
make these events successful, profitable, and to help
keep our annual band fees comparatively low. For a
complete look at the slide show presented click
here

Calendar Ad
Sales are now underway and final turn
in is February 26, 2010.

assigned to them and encourage them to
continue to advertise in the band
calendars. Band members that do not
have any ads are highly encouraged to
drum up new business. Please refer
to the calendar ad packet
for more information.
If your Band member hasn't picked
up their packet yet, please contact your

Invited to Attend the 2010 Indoor Percussion Europe
Championships
The Centerville High School
Winter Drumline (Centerville, OH USA) will be
traveling to Europe this Spring to compete in the 2010
Indoor Percussion Europe Championships in
Crawley, England. The group will consist of
approximately 50 High School students and the
trip is coordinated to align with Spring Break from March 31-April
11, 2010.
While rehearsing for and
competing at the Championships, the group will
also have the opportunity to visit the historic and
educational cities of Brugges, Amsterdam, London
and Paris, providing an experience of a lifetime for the
students. "With Centerville High School as
our specials guests, we are certain that the
European directors, designers and fans will
experience what indoor percussion is all
about!" says Erwin van Gemert of Indoor Percussion Europe.
"Centerville High School will have a great
experience here in Europe sight seeing and spreading good will
throughout the indoor percussion community with
clinics and shows in many different venues all over
Europe and the UK. We are more than happy to
welcome them at our European Championships in
Crawley (UK) on April 4th!".
The Centerville Winter Drumline
was selected as the ambassador for US Indoor
Percussion based on their many years of success in
Winter Guard International Percussion
Championships. Centerville has been a WGI Finalist 11
times, winning the Gold Medal in Scholastic Open
Class in 1999 and the Gold Medal in Scholastic World
Class in 2004. ‘We are extremely excited and
honored to have been selected to participate in
this International Percussion Competition. I know
that our students will never forget this
experience and our community is very proud that the
Centerville Winter Drumline is an International
Ambassador for the Arts.” says Tim Fairbanks,
Marching Percussion Director.
Centerville HS Winter Drumline
would like to thank the following sponsors,
whose continuing support of the group will help
make this trip a reality: Dynasty, Innovative
Percussion, Sabian Cymbals, Remo Drumheads, Muremo Music, FJM
and the Centerville Band Boosters.

OMEA Honors for Jazz
Ensemble and Wind Symphony
Centerville High
School is proud to announce that the Jazz
Ensemble and Wind Symphony will be performing on
Friday, January 29th at the Ohio Music Educators
Association Professional Development Conference
in Cincinnati. Both groups sent in audition
tapes and were selected out of a large
application pool of ensembles from all over
Ohio. The Jazz Ensemble was the only high school
jazz band given the honor to perform at this
years’ conference. The Wind Symphony is one of
three high school concert bands from Ohio
selected to perform. The OMEA conference occurs
once a year and is a gathering of music
educators, performers, and college students who
meet to learn more about music education through
clinics and performances from the best ensembles
in the state of Ohio. This is the second time in
school history that the Jazz Ensemble has been
accepted to perform at the OMEA conference; the
last time was in 2001. This will be the first
time in school history that the Wind Symphony
has been invited to perform at the OMEA
convention. The Jazz Ensemble will be performing
Friday, January 29th at 8:30 am in the
Millennium Hotel Bronze Ballroom and the Wind
Symphony will be performing at 12:15 pm in the
Duke Energy Convention Center Ballroom C/D. If
you are not able to join us in Cincinnati,
please come to our preview concert in the
Centerville Performing Arts Center on Wednesday
January 27 at 7:30 PM. The Centerville Band
program is largely known for its highly
successful marching band which has competed
nationally for the past twenty five years.
However, under the direction of Brandon
Barrometti and Josh Baker, the concert bands and
jazz ensembles are earning similar recognition.
Centerville is very proud of these students and
wishes them all the best in their upcoming
performances. Congratulations Centerville Bands!

Chili / Potluck Supper, Saturday October
24
Mark your calendars for Saturday,
October 24. This is the date for the
annual Chili/Potluck Supper. This is an
annual Jazz Band tradition to celebrate
our season and to honor our seniors. It
will be held in the CHS South Commons.
Watch for announcements for the exact
time but it will be some time after
practice and before the band leaves for
the competition in Mason that evening.
The senior families bring the chili and
the seniors themselves will be in hats
and aprons to serve up a dessert of ice
cream sundaes with all the fixings and
pose for photos. This event will feed
the entire band, staff, and families
attending, so we ask each family to
bring a dish to share as follows:
Senior families - your favorite chili
Junior families - warm vegetable/side
dish
Sophomore families - salads and breads
Freshman families with names beginning
A-M - alternate main dish; Freshman
families with names beginning N-Z - two
dozen cookies.
We also need people to sign up to help
set up and clean up.
For more information contact Denise
Dickson, Hospitality Chairman, 790-9663,

Parents
need to fill out a form if picking up Child directly from
Competitions/Events
This is to remind parents to
fill out a
Request for Release form if they plan to take
their child home with them from any event. The form should
be filled out and given to Mr Barrometti/Mr Baker prior to
an event. No one is to take their child from an event
without permission from the Director or Head Chaperone.
When it is time to leave with your child, meet the Head
Chaperone at the truck and sign them out. Your child must be
with you to verify they are leaving with you. Band members
are only allowed to get a ride home with their own parents.
This process is set up for your child's safety and to help
the entire band leave as quickly and seamlessly from every
event.
Exciting
News:
The Centerville High School Wind Symphony and Jazz
Ensemble I have been selected to perform at the Ohio
Music Educators Association Professional Development
Conference on January 28-30, 2010. This is a
huge accomplishment for our program. The OMEA
Conference is a showcase of the best performing
ensembles in the state of Ohio. Over 120 CD's
were submitted representing outstanding groups from
all areas and levels. Groups were selected
through "blind" audition based on quality and
diversity. This marks the first time that a
concert band from Centerville has ever been chosen,
and it has been many years since a jazz ensemble
from Centerville has been selected.
This all started with an increased focus on our
concert program. Centerville has long been
known to have an outstanding marching band, and we
felt that it was important for us to show that our
students can achieve at a high level in other areas.
We hope that you can join us for this momentous
occasion. Once we receive details on our
performance date and time, we will forward that
information on to you. We are very excited to
showcase the talents of our students. This
performance is one step along the way towards
building a total band program.

First
Ever Rock-a-Thon
Thanks to all the staff,
parents, and some alumni too who helped to make our first
ever Rock-a-Thon sensational and fun. Thanks to all
the people who sponsored the rockers and helped them raise
money for the Centerville Jazz Band. Money is due to
Mr. Barrometti or Mr. Baker by Monday, August 24, 2009.
Come
be a Band Chaperone (yes, you!)
There will be a chaperone meeting
on Monday September, 24, 2009 at 7:00 PM in the
Band Hall Tech Room. Please come and learn
about the ins and outs of being a chaperone and sign
up to help for events. Questions should go to Laura
Ward at
mike.laura.ward@earthlink.net or 885-1972.
Have you been trying to
get on CBB Jazz News or One Call Now???
Yes, we have been having issues
with emails being generated from the site and are
trying to work out the problems, but it has not been
solved yet. The form is accessible from the
'One Call Now and Email Sign up' link on the left
hand side of this page. You click here and
then click again near the bottom of that page.
But after you fill in the information and submit the
information does not go anywhere. So for the
time being, please
submit enough information (refer to the form that
does not work) via email so that you can get on the
list and get connected.

Rock-a-Thon - August 15
On Saturday, August 15th, the CJB will be
participating in the first ever "Rock-a-Thon". Keep in
mind that this is a
required event for
all students. The money raised from the donations will go
towards helping the band fund our trips to St. Louis and
Indianapolis. It's also just a great bonding activity for
the band and a good chance for everyone to get to know each
other. Our goal is for every student to try and raise
$200...so ask your neighbors, relatives, friends, and
co-workers. Remember, this is a great opportunity to get
people to donate who normally would not purchase items from
another fundraiser.

Band Camp Information from Mr.
Barrometti:
I hope that everyone is enjoying time
off and is ready to come back to band!
The season is already shaping up to be
a very exciting one, and after the
success of the mini camps & the
Americana Parade, we are anxious to get
to band camp. Remember that Dessert
Night is Sunday
night at 7 pm in the band room.
All students should plan on attending
with at least one parent. Please bring
a dessert or an appetizer to share.
During this time, you can turn in
forms, pay your band fees, and take care
of other items to get ready for the
upcoming season.
Also, keep in mind a few things that
will help you have a successful week.
Every student will need to have a water
bottle, gym shoes, comfortable clothes
(no jeans), all music, and all equipment
needed for rehearsal. A drill book will
be provided for each student. The
schedule for the week is as follows:
Monday, July 20th - at CHS
9:00 am Rehearsal
12:00 pm Lunch (on your own)
1:30 pm Rehearsal
4:30 pm Dinner (on
your own)
6:30 pm Rehearsal

11:30 am Lunch (on your

1:00 pm Rehearsal
4:30 pm Dinner (provided)
6:30 pm Rehearsal
9:30 pm Dismissed
The schedule for the rest of the week
at Miami will
be given to you when we are at band
camp. For parents, please remember that
the Parent Preview Show will be held on Friday,
July 24th at 5:00 pm. In
order to reduce the cost of Band Camp,
dinner will not be
provided for students, so please plan to
have dinner after the students are
dismissed at 5:30.
Also, something different this year to
save on expenses, we will not be using
towels and linens from Miami
University, so please have your student
bring these with them to camp.
Finally, students will
not be provided with transportation
back to Centerville, so please plan
accordingly. If you cannot make it to
the parent preview show, please arrange
for your child to ride home with another
family.
Dessert Night -TONIGHT- Sunday July 19, 7 pm Band
Room
Bring your checkbook as band fees are due. If you
don't know your total due, fee statements will be available.
As the name implies, it is dessert night so please bring a
dessert or appetizer to share, something that would feed a
dozen. Please remember the two changes to band camp this year--the
parent show is at 5 pm Friday and the kids will not have had
dinner before hand, and bring your own bed linens and
towels.
Class of 2010 Parents
New News:
Senior Parents, I will be at the Kick-Off Night on July 3,
bring me your photos then. Please bring
2 baby pictures
of your child plus 5
photos of your darling through the years. These should
be a comprehensive representation of your child--sports
photos, vacation, playing an instrument as a youngster would
be cute. Close-ups work really well. Collecting the
photos will be Janet Hall at 25 Cameron Circle, 45459
(across from the high school) or Kim Letcher at 1258 Chisolm Trail, 45458. You can drop off or mail the photos.
One of the baby pictures will be used for a “Who’s Who”
guessing contest that will be on display all four days at
Miami, so make sure that the photo is very young and not
easily identifiable. This is a long standing band tradition
and lots of fun. The photos will be used at band camp and
again at the end of the season for the senior banquet, at
which time you will get them back glued to a (beautiful,
one-of-a-kind) poster, so please feel free to color copy
your photos if they are priceless. Please start on
this as soon as possible, we need these pictures sooner then
you think. Please try to get them dropped off by the
second week of July.
A message from Mr. Barrometti for the Hornline
mini-campers:
I hope that you are all finding time to relax and are
enjoying the start of your summer break. As we prepare
for the hornline mini camp, I wanted to give you some
information that will be helpful for you to plan for a
successful week:
Schedule:
9-12 Rehearsal
12-1:30 Lunch
1:30-5:00
Rehearsal
Please plan on
bringing a lunch
or have someone
bring food to
school for you.
You are free to
leave for lunch,
but please plan
accordingly so
that you are not
late.
In the evening,
we will try to
get together and
do some fun
activities such
as basketball,
dodgeball, etc.
This is all
depending on the
availability of
the gyms. If
you like, bring
frisbees,
footballs, etc.
so that we can
go outside if we
can't get into
the gyms.
A few things are
important to
remember to
bring with you:
large water
bottle
gym shoes
comfortable
clothes (no
jeans)
hat/sunglasses
sunscreen
instrument/music
physical forms
handbook forms
(can be printed
from the
website)
Keep in mind that we will be spending a good amount of
time outside. You MUST drink a lot of water before
you go outside. Do not wait until you are outside
in the heat to start drinking water. Try to drink
plenty of water the night before. Also, a hat and
sunglasses will make your time outside much more
tolerable. Sunscreen is a good idea, especially if
you burn easily. We are going to have a great week,
and we will get a lot of things done. Everyone
needs to be ready to work hard and have some fun!

Jazz Classic Golf Outing
We are Gloria & Mike Breh. We have been working on
the golf outing committee for the past several years.
We were associated with the band from 1988 through 2001.
We do the recruiting of volunteers to work the day of
the outing, August 11, 2009 at Heatherwoode Country Club
in Springboro. Over the past few years the Outing has
earned approximately $46,000 for the scholarship fund.
These funds have allowed the value of scholarships
awarded to be increased as well as the number to be
increased. We are looking for hole spotters, (8
people), Lunch Buffet (2 people), plus several other
positions. Anyone interested, please call Gloria Breh
at 439-4133 or
mcbreh@aol.com. We can use all the help we can get.
Thanks to everyone who made the Garage Sale and Flower
Sales fundraisers such a success. Whoever said you
couldn't run two fundraisers simultaneously?
Thank you to everyone who helped unload, sort, and check
flowers for our 2009 Flower Sale! It was really
wonderful to see such a great group of parents,
grandparents, and students working so cheerfully together!
Thanks to everyone donated items and helped with pricing,
setting out, signs, hot dog cooking, heavy lifting, etc.
And what could be better then shopping while listening to the
Centerville Jazz Combo? .
The success of these fundraisers once again prove what
the band team can achieve when everyone pulls together to
support, help to make things happen. There will be
many future opportunities to volunteer in the upcoming weeks
so come help, work with wonderful people, and have a great
time! Start by coming to the upcoming Rookie Night and see
all the fun ways you can get involved in supporting the
ninth best band in the nation, spend quality time with your
kid and make new friends.
2009 Senior T-Shirt Order Form.
The 2010 Senior T-Shirt orders and
payment are due to Dru Miller by June 1st. These
are for Seniors and Senior Parents and will have all four
shows on the back.
2009 Tour T-Shirt Order Form
Above is the 2009 tour shirt order form.
This form can be filled in first before printing. Please use only one
form per family. Please snail mail to the name and
address at the bottom of the form.
Each
band member will receive one free tour shirt. Because
the t-shirts are worn for some performances it is helpful to
have two shirts. Parents and siblings can order them
too. The students
will be wearing these for the 4th of July
Americana Festival Parade. All orders must be prepaid.
Make checks payable to: Centerville Band Boosters.
REMINDER: T-Shirt Orders and
payment are due to Lou Gasaway by June 1st.
Each band member family must submit an order form. This
is the only way to get your free t-shirt. Additional
orders should be added to this same form.
Jazz on the Lawn
Any one and everyone is welcomed and encouraged to come
enjoy Jazz on the Lawn out on the front lawn in front
of the high school from 11:30 to 1:00. Parents,

Concert Bands News
On March 14 the Centerville High School
Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Symphony participated
in the Ohio Music Education Association District 12
Adjudicated Event. All three ensembles performed very well
for a panel of OMEA judges at Kettering Fairmont High
School. The panel was very impressed with each ensemble's
quality of sound, musicianship, and technique exhibited in
their performances.
The Concert Band performed in festival class so they did
not receive a rating only judge feedback. However, the
feedback was very positive and students were very proud of
their performance.
The Symphonic Band received the first "Superior" rating
from the panel of judges that day at the event and was one
of only three bands who received the top rating in their
classification all weekend. The Symphonic Band has not
received a superior rating at contest since 2002.
The Wind Symphony also performed a very challenging
program and received unanimous "Superior" ratings from all
four judges at the event.
The Wind Symphony has not received unanimous superior
ratings at OMEA contest since 1999.
The concert bands from Centerville represented our
district, high school, and music program very well this
weekend. We should all be very proud of our students
accomplishments and the strengths that our music program has
to offer at Centerville. Please help us share the great
news!

Honors
The Centerville High School Jazz Combo and Jazz Ensemble 1
was invited to perform at Miami University this past weekend
as a part of the Southwest Ohio High School Jazz Festival.
Both ensembles represented Centerville very well with two
excellent performances. Not only was performing in part of
this festival an honor, but two students from Centerville
High School received two of the three scholarships that were
up for grabs for performing students who performed in jazz
ensembles from other Southwest Ohio High Schools.

marching band season with a brunch on the
Sunday morning following the BOA Grand
Nationals competition. This year’s brunch
will be held on Sunday, November 16, at
Jonathan Byrd’s Cafeteria in Greenwood,
Indiana, just south of Indianapolis. You
can find out more information about the
location at
www.jonathanbyrds.com.
Along
with a wonderful breakfast buffet, the event
includes a rousing welcome for the band
members, great photo opportunities,
recognition of our senior band members, and
the Director’s wrap-up of the season.
Last year
we had almost 600 people attend this event!
The facility is so good at this type of
event that we all have our food within 20
minutes of the first table going through the
buffet line!
Reservations this year at $12 per person
and you must purchase your reservations
in advance for everyone who will
be attending, except for your student band
member. The Band Boosters covers the cost
of each band member’s breakfast, as well as
those people who chaperone our kids for the
2008 BOA Grand Nationals.

the reservations form.

Senior Recognition Night – Friday,
October 17
Our Centerville Jazz Band seniors will be
recognized during pre-game at the football game
on October 17! We need some participation from
the senior parents to make this night a success:
Band practice will end at 4:45. Please bring
dinner to your seniors around 5:00 so they can
eat a quick meal before they dress and have
pictures taken with their families.
Please sign in at the Senior Parent table in the
band hallway to receive your mum and sparklers.
You will then be directed to the area designated
for photos.
After photos, parents gather at Gate C to
welcome the band with sparklers as they enter
the stadium.
Chili / Potluck Supper – Saturday October 18
Mark your
calendars for Saturday, October 18. This is
the date for the annual Chili/Potluck
Supper. This is an annual Jazz Band
tradition to celebrate our season and to
honor our seniors. It will be held in the
CHS South Commons. Watch for announcements
for the exact time but it will be some time
after practice and before the band leaves
for the competition in Mason that evening.
The senior families bring the chili and the
seniors themselves will be in hats and
aprons to serve up a dessert of ice cream
sundaes with all the fixings and pose for
photos. This event will feed the entire
band, staff and families attending, so we
ask each family to bring a dish to share as
follows:
Senior families - your favorite chili
Junior families - warm vegetable/side dish
Sophomore families - salads and breads
Freshman families with names beginning A-L -
alternate main dish; Freshman families with
names beginning N-Z - two dozen cookies.

Football
Fooding
For each home football game, we serve
cookies/snacks to both bands after the halftime
show. The students listed below are responsible for
providing 2 dozen cookies, rice crispy treats, or
some other snack in a disposable container for this
week's football game. Salty works as well as
sweet. We have a couple of peanut allergies,
if you find something peanut free that would be
great, if those with allergies would like to bring
something directly to us that would be fine too.
Mike and Joan Cordonnier will collect items at the
end of practice on Thursdays if you would like to
bring them at that time or will be in the band
hallway until 6:30 on Fridays the night of the game.
Any questions, call Joan Cordonnier at 439-1874.

There have been a few
comments about some individuals not being able to access the

you are running other operating systems, hopefully you
don't need any help!
