The
Miami Valley Jazz Summer Camp is pleased to announce its major Guest
Artists for the 2003 Camp, which will be held at Centerville High School
during the week of June 16th. Miami
Valley Jazz is pleased to welcome
Maynard
Ferguson and the Big Bop Nouveau.
The Special Guest Artist-In-Residence for this year’s Camp will be Shelly
Berg. What
a line-up for the week!
The
camp will once again feature Big Bands and Combos, improvisation skill
building, theory and history classes, and our famous student/faculty lunchtime
jam sessions. Miami Valley Jazz
will maintain its traditionally low student to faculty ratio (approximately
6:1). Our regionally and
nationally renown Camp staff will include an incredible regional faculty
listed above. Truly, this represents
an extraordinary opportunity for the Camp’s young musicians to learn from
these professional musicians.
All
daily sessions will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m.
The week will culminate with the Camp’s musicians performing a
concert at the High School, which will be free and open to the public. The
Camp registration fee, payable by June 1st, will include all
sessions, a catered lunch each day, a CD of the final concert, a summer camp
T-shirt, and a tickets to the Faculty and Phil Woods / Dayton Jazz Orchestra
Concerts. The full-day fee is
only $200. Once again this year,
half-day sessions will be available to students attending morning summer
school. Half-day sessions will
begin at 1:00 p.m. and conclude at 4:00 p.m. at a registration fee of $130. Optional
catered lunch will be available for an additional $30.
Scholarships will be available based on financial need and musical
ability.

Calling
all Adult Jazz Aficionados, Musicians or Wanna-be’s!
The 2003 Miami
Valley Summer Jazz Camp is pleased to announce a new twist to our camp
scheduled to begin June 16th, 2003. We will be offering for the first
time, an adult component to the camp. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
evenings from 6:00 - 7:30 pm, we will offer two different learning tracks
that you can participate in.
The first track is
called "Chop Monsters" with Special Guest Artist-In-Residence
Shelly Berg. "Chop Monsters" is a unique way of learning jazz
improvisation in a very non-threatening, enjoyable, sequential way. If you
can play the Bb Major scale, you can become a Chop Monster!
The second track
is a fantastic Jazz Appreciation Workshop with Dayton’s own Papa Jazz,
Don Henke – jazz beat writer for the Dayton Daily News. Don will reveal
his insights into the history and art of jazz. He will also take us on
musical journey and share with us some of his favorite jazz artists,
styles, and just why he likes them.
This will be a
session that anyone will enjoy while gaining a greater appreciation for
the art of Jazz!
The cost for
either track is a meager $25 for all three nights, cheaper than a trip to
the gas pump! So what are you waiting for? Give a call or drop us an
e-mail and register for the Adult Miami Valley Jazz Camp 2003!

information about the camp, please contact us at 937-231-3687 or info@DaytonJazzOrchestra.com.
