CONGRATULATIONS TO THE

CHS WIND SYMPHONY!

chs wind symphony

The Centerville High School Wind Symphony performed at the prestigious Music for All National Concert Band Festival on Friday, March 15, 2013. The group performed in Clowes Auditorium on the campus of Butler University for a panel of some of the most acclaimed conductors and educators in the field of music education. The students and directors received great feedback from the festival evaluators so they can continue to learn from and improve the ensemble for the future. This performance marks the first time that the ensemble has been invited to this national festival. The Centerville Wind Symphony was the only band selected from the state of Ohio and is only the fourth band from the state of Ohio to be invited to perform in the twenty-two year history of the event. The Centerville Wind Symphony was one of sixteen of the best concert bands from across the country selected to perform at this year’s festival. The group was selected based on a blind audition recording that was sent to Music for All last spring. In addition to performing in the festival, the students also had the opportunity to hear performances of the Honor Jazz Band of America and the Honor Band of America featuring the principal trombonist of the New York Philharmonic, Joe Alessi. The Wind Symphony students represented the Centerville band program, high school, school district, and community at a national level and we are so proud of their accomplishments!

Centerville HS Musicians Perform at Rose Parade

rose parade

Two Centerville High School musicians - Adam Crusey who plays trombone and Eileen Markert who plays flute -as part of the Bands ofAmerica National Honor
Band marched in the 124th Tournament of Roses Parade Jan. 1. The band included more than 300 individuals who were chosen by audition. They came from 145 schools from across the nation and nearly every state was represented.
The Honor Band performs every four years and this was the third appearance for this group at the Rose Parade (previously 2005 and 2009). Fred J. Miller, Inc. sponsored these students by paying their entry fees and provided the uniforms which is a representation of the American Flag in abstract design. The group of musicians, color guard and dancers rehearsed together only a few days before performing at Bandfest and a Disneyland parade Dec. 30 followed by the Rose Parade.
