Trumpeter Ray Vega to perform with Centerville High School Jazz
Ensembles
Centerville High School Jazz Ensembles concert featuring Ray Vega,
Wednesday, February 18th at 7:30 P.M. Centerville High School Theater.
Tickets are $5.00 for students $10 for adults, available at the door
or in the Centerville Band Office beginning January 21st. For more
information call 439-3568. Mr. Vega's appearance is sponsored by
City Folk.
Ray was born and raised in The South Bronx. The bands that he
performed and/or recorded with include: Tito Puente, Ray
Baretto, Mongo Santamaria, Mario Bauza, Ray Baretto, Luis "Perico"
Ortiz, Louie Ramirez, Hector Lavoe, Johnny Pacheco, Tito Nieves,
Adalberto Santiago, Celia Cruz just to name a few. Ray recorded
six CD's with Tito Puente, including the Grammy winning "Mambo
Birdland."
Presently, Vega is a Concord Jazz recording artist with 2 CD's out,
"Ray Vega" and "Boperation." "Boperation"
is a Latin Jazz celebration of some of Ray's favorite Jazz trumpet
players. He still performs and records as Lead Trumpeter with Tito
Puente's Latin Jazz Orchestra, The Bronx Horns, and participates in
many exciting projects (Conrad Herwig's Grammy nominated "The
Latin Side of Coltrane" and Joe Henderson Grammy winning
"The Joe Henderson Big Band"). Ray Vega was the winner of
the B.R.I.O. award for music composition in 1989, 1991, 1993 and 1995.
